Wow, what a busy summer the Bulverde/Spring Branch Library is going to have. Camp Library, Read-for-Prizes, Wednesday Family Programs and Special Teen Programs started the first of June and will continue into August.
If you haven't been in to the library recently, check out the Book Nook for Used Books to take on your vacation or just sitting by the pool. Donations vary depending on the article you select. Also coupons called "Book Nook Coupon" are available at the circulation desk. They make great gifts. All donations directly benefit the library.
Check out the calendar monitor behind the circulation desk that lists events and activities happening that week and in the future in the library. Check out the new revolving stand which contains brochures, flyers, FOL membership applications, etc. that is now the home to those items that once were cluttering up the circulation desk. Check out the Butterfly Garden on the southside of the building; it is beginning to attract butterflies and occasionally a hummingbird. Sit on the new bench and enjoy the view.
You never know what will appear next. New books, new displays, new programs...what a great place to spend a few hours or all day.

~Planning for our bus trip to the Bob Bullock Museum in Austin on June 25. What an excellent way to visit this museum, relax on the drive to and from Austin and visit with friends! Please join us and give us feedback on where you'd like to go on our next bus trip. Registration forms are available at the Library.
~Planning to help the library staff with Summer Reading Programs. The librarians have done an outstanding job of planning this year's program - all to take place in our library. You'll want to check the calendar and join us for many of these programs.
~Planning and working in the Butterfly Garden. What a beautiful and peaceful spot that is turning out to be. The River Crossing Garden Club made and donated markers to identify the plants that have been planted to attract butterflies. I love those markers. And, the committee even added a bench for you to sit a while and enjoy the beauty.
~Planning One Book/One Community events for this fall. The One Book program will start on September 12 with a Marley and Me Reader's Theatre with volunteers reading select passages from Marley and Me. and we will wrap up on October 24 with a pooch parade and dog biscuit baking contest. I'm so excited about this program; I can't wait to tell you more in the coming months.
~Planning a Kitchen Party to help stock the library kitchen. Pat Haecker is planning a Kitchen Party to help stock the library kitchen with towels, serving utensils, etc. Look for the gift tree coming soon to the library lobby and select a gift to bring to the party. Pat is the newest member of the Friends Board. Pat was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Board and to serve as Director of Committees. Pat was our food expert for last year's Good Old Boys One Book/One Community Program, and she is working in that capacity again this year. She makes the best cakes and cookies!
If you're new to the Friends or want to find what the Friends of the Library are all about, please join us at any of these activities and look for the folks wearing the Friends of the Library name tags. They'll be happy to answer your questions and have your help with our activities.
And, while you're at the library, stop by the Friends Book Nook and pick out a book or two for your summer reading pleasure. I can't think of anything I'd rather do on a hot summer day than sit on my back porch with a glass of tea or lemonade and read a good book. Won't you join me?

Library Director's Report
Susan Herr
It's Summer!!! Finally!!! I know my graduates are just starting their new lives and so are we at the library. Summer Reading is also finally here!!! Please come in from the heat and enjoy all the library has to offer. Our staff and volunteers have worked hard to provide community activities so you don't have to travel all the way in to town to keep the kids busy. Look on our website and in the library for the brochure describing all the details.
Take care & enjoy!!!
